NYC Post Trip Blog: Alysia

Aloha, my name is Alysia Kepaa and I will be talking about how New York City changed me as a person, what I learned, how it affects me next school year and what were my top three highlights.

So for me New York City was fun, amazing and a great new experience. From the first day of seeing things like Times Square to seeing the Top of the Rock, seeing Broadway shows, and doing some shopping. The whole week was fun, from having a bus tour, doing a Broadway workshop, seeing some museums like Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, and seeing Broadway musicals in New York City was amazing.

Being in New York I’ve learned that if you are going to be auditioning for anything, like a play, there will be people that would bring you down and you just have to persevere because it’s your passion. I’ve also learned that there are a lot of good schools in New York, like NYU and Juilliard. NYU and Juilliard both have a lot to offer. For example, Juilliard they would help you get gigs and they would help you with all of your financial problems.

One of the greatest things that I’ve learned is that New York is very expensive, and that people love to spend their money in Times Square.

New York has changed me because there were a lot of things to see and the things that I’ve seen have changed my view of New York. For example, I thought that Broadway was just one huge building that they do only one show, but there are multiple buildings.

For the performing arts side of things, I now want to pursue it when I get out of high school. Before this trip, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, but I knew I wanted some interest in the performing arts.

During the trip we saw a lot of things that are related to the performing arts and that made me more interested and now I know, I want to pursue the performing arts after I get out of high school. This trip affects me next school year because it would change my career for what I would like to do when I grow up. Next year I’m going to take dance classes in school, and then after school I would still be in the performing arts class. These classes that I am taking during and after school will help prepare me and teach me skills, so I can pursue performing arts. I will also be looking at different college’s performing arts programs.

Lastly, my top three highlights of the trip was seeing my favorite Broadway show in New York City, Waitress. It was amazing for me, and that was a highlight because I was seeing one of my favorite broadway shows, but in New York City. My second highlight was seeing Times Square for the first time. Seeing it shine so bright was really cool and amazing, because it’s fascinating how the lights on the billboard don’t turn off. It stays on every single day, it’s on 24/7 never shuts down and that’s the cool part because it just stays there and it shines. The last highlight was just seeing the other two Broadway shows that we went to because they were all amazing, just amazing.

The feeling that each show that we’ve seen, had this smile on my face for me. Like the feeling that you’ll get when you’re watching a really cool movie. But those were my top three highlights of the trip to New York City.
