Pre-NYC Trip Blog: Chloe

Hey it’s Chloe...Chloe Kitsu, I was lucky enough to travel with NPAC to New York City two times previously. However, on this trip we will be able to do things that we were never able to do on previous trips. For example, we are very fortunate to be able to participate in a Broadway Workshop, so through that I hope to improve my skills in performing.

My purpose for going on this trip is to improve my performing skills and to also just experience new things that I never did before. I previously mentioned the Broadway Workshop, which we will be doing and with that I think I will be able to learn new techniques and skills that can help me in performing arts. Also, when I went to New York previously, the 9/11 memorial museum was still in construction and only the reflection pools were open. Today, the museum is open and I am excited to go there to learn more about what happened.

Having a pre-show dinner with cast members of Miss Saigon is another activity that I am looking forward to. I think it will be very interesting and cool to be able to talk to actual people who are in the industry, and then after go and see them in their show. I think it will be a once in a lifetime experience and a time for us to get first hand advice from people who are actually doing what we do back home in Hawaii with NPAC. I also want to learn about how the process of being cast in a Broadway show works and what processes they have to go through in order to get where they are today. With NPAC, I do costumes as well, so I would like to learn how they organize their costumes backstage.

I am also looking forward to eating a lot of different foods. Last time when I went to New York, I did not get a chance to eat a gyro. Therefore, this trip it is my goal to eat at least one gyro. I am also very excited to go back to Ellen’s Stardust Diner where the waiters and waitresses sing and dance as they serve you your meal. Lastly I am looking forward to seeing Waitress, Kinky Boots, and Miss Saigon, which are all musicals that I have not seen before.

I hope to learn more about myself and the performing arts industry. One of the other things that we will be doing is visiting colleges such as NYU, Columbia, and possibly Juilliard. I want to see if NYU, a college that I have been looking at for years, is a place that I may want to go to school.

I think this trip will help me in the future with not only performing arts, but with life too. It’s a great experience that we get to travel all the way across the country. We get to tour colleges that I may want to go to in the future. It also will help us to learn about money and learning how to spend and save our money. On performing arts side of things, I think that this trip will give us the inside scoop on what it really takes to be on broadway whether you’re the star of the show or in the ensemble. I also think it will help me become a better performer not only through learning things in the workshop, but by watching broadway shows too. Being able to watch the performers and take notes on how they perform, I think will be very beneficial for me in the future.

I am so very excited to go to New York, I can’t wait!!
